When we began the process of opening the new 1 Salon brand to the Salt Lake City market, one of our first conversations was hair care lines we wanted to offer to our clients. We created a list, albeit a short list, of hair care lines we had worked with in the past, new lines that are trending, and product lines that are receiving mass amounts of press. As we began to look through the list, two companies stood out for 2 very different reasons. Shu Uemura and Bumble and Bumble.

Shu Uemura (often quoted in anything fashion related, and yes, was a person!) began as a cosmetics line that continues to rule the global market with his innovations to the skincare and cosmetics industry. In 2007, he (yes, HE is a real life person!) launched Shu Uemura Art Of Hair to bring his influence in the skincare market to the hair industry. Ever wonder why you have cosmetic counters and make up artists at the counter to teach you how to use the products? Shu Uemura first introduced the idea in Tokyo in 1965, and thus sparked the global introduction to have in-store artists teach trends within department retail locations to promote products. With the basis of essential oils and the progression of science, Shu Uemura has created a luxury hair brand that is boutique specific to your needs. Why do we love it? Because we know our climate. Specifically, what ingredients do to hair and skin within our desert climate. Utah has little to no humidity 100% of the time. Often lower end product lines put higher amounts of hydrolyzed proteins (hydrolyzed wheat protein, soy protein, etc), which work beautifully in humid climates. Proteins add strength in hair (and appear in products marketed towards “damaged hair”.  In dry climates, artificial proteins cause moisture loss in replacement for strength. Too much protein in hair without the balance of moisture causes hair to break off whether it’s healthy or not. Shu Uemura treats hair with oils, not proteins (or very little, because they are helpful in small amounts in Utah), allowing a beautiful balance of moisture and strength that works wonders on anyone who is chemically treated in Utah, or any of the surrounding states. Our clients are OBSESSED with Shu!

Bumble and Bumble started off as a salon in New York City, where it then developed in to the “it” place for razor cutting and style, then turned in to a product line mogul with its line of products being developed by and for the needs of New York Fashion Week. We at 1 Salon love Bumble for a number of reasons. We love that they test all of their new products entirely on their clients at both of their NYC salons, not animals. Not ever (with a note that 1 Salon dedicates all it’s non-profit donations entirely to our furry friends!). We love their dedication to education with the House of Bumble education facility which offers classes ranging from blow drying, business, coloring and cutting courses that hundreds of stylists take, and because we are a Bumble partner, our stylists have access to each course. And because we’re a tight knit group, we have the ability to teach each other every single day what we learn from any class any of us attend! And that’s a powerful tool for salon environments. That each of our stylists have the same knowledge as the other stylists and then adds their own aesthetic. How powerful is that? Finally, Bumbles constant contribution to styling options. They have a range of products that offers literally every client, every texture of hair, every density of hair, and every single lifestyle to be able to achieve what is needed for the hair to achieve what the client. Versatility and its very finest.

All of our stylist are well versed in both our lines and are happy to help you be able to achieve whatever you need with your hair. Some of you may want wash-and-go hair. We’ve got you! Some of you like to get up early and get yourself styled from head to toe. Some of you may have had a hair experience that pushed your hair maybe a bit too far. We’ve got you too. We’ve got all of you.

Your friends and stylists,
